Memorial Biography

Si Liravongsa was born in Savannakhet, Laos. She was the 2nd youngest of 5 siblings. She passed away peacefully surrounded by love from her husband of 40 years, her children, and grandchildren. Her story was one of love and war, when she left her birthplace with the love of her life to Ubon, Thailand Refugee Camp. In 1980, she along with her husband relocated to Milwaukee, WI where she gave birth to 3 children. She was head chef of the family’s thriving restaurant and owner of the first Asian supermarket in town. Anyone that knew her knew that she found joy in cooking for others, and she never let anyone leave without feeling full and loved. Eventually they moved to Hamilton, MI and in 1994 she became a US Citizen. She loved her family, children, and grandchildren with all of her being. Often finding joy in baking with her granddaughters, watching her grandsons in sports, and watching youtube videos about food and culture. She believed in the power of family and would open the family home in Michigan to multiple families while in transition so they would not be separated. She also taught the youth of the Laotion community traditional dance performing at universities and multiple events. She will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, selflessness, genuine kindness, silly humor, and hardworking ethic. She was blessed to travel between her children’s home in Colorado and Michigan as well as visiting dear friends and family in Florida, Wisconsin, Thailand, and Laos. Her memory will live on through her husband Chris Liravongsa and her children: Tom Liravongsa (Emily) of Holland, Michigan, Christina Kelley (Quinten) of Holland, Michigan, and Samantha Liravongsa of Centennial, Colorado. Grandchildren: Niran Liravongsa, Kaden Atsaphanthong, Christian Kelley, Mckenna Kelley, and Luke Liravongsa. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered as the greatest mom, grandma, aunt, and sister. You will always be our inspiration and greatest gift to us. We love you mom! She will be cremated in Denver, Colorado May 12, 2021. A full memorial service and celebration of life will be scheduled in Michigan June of 2021. We appreciate all the love and support and find comfort knowing she touched the lives and is loved by so many.
